Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
I have just downloaded the latest vers 1.0 and am having some problems running it.
I have been able to install it and run it on a Sony notebook. Although I am not able to get OpenLP to show full screen on a second monitor. I can get Windows Media Player and Intervideo WinDVD players to show video full screen on a second monitor while seeing the application and desktop on the notebook screen. But OpenLP will not. I wonder if that is more to do with the notebook setup. For example, it needs to be setup for both screens to be run in clone mode. But I would be interested in anyones comments.
So, I thought I would install on a desktop PC with a dual head video card. It installs OK,,, but will not start. All I get is the std Windows this program has struck a problem and needs to be shut down message. In fact, this also happens on another PC of similar arrangement.
The desktop PCs run Windows XP sp2 and Matrox video cards. 1 a P650 and the other a Parhelia. I don't know what else I can tell you so throw me some questions and I will try to answer them.- Login or register to post comments

Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
Can you disable error reporting in Windows, as per this article, and then get back to us please? Thanks.
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
Hi peppie. Regarding the first issue, have you changed the output monitor to your secondary monitor within the openlp.org settings?
(Options -> Settings menu, Display Settings tab, Monitors section)
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
Gentlemen, I have good news and not so good news!
I have managed to get OpenLP to work on the Sony notebook. I understand now that Open LP wants the screens set up as an extended desktop. The Nvidia Control Panel was trying to tell me that it preferred the displays to be cloned. And that is where I was able to play video to the second monitor from Windows Media Player etc.. So it works now. I just have to expand my set up notes to provide for different software/hardware arrangements.
I did notice a small problem just now. In that when I went to preview a song and then go live with another it threw up a box that said that there was nothing associated with that selection and it wouldn't let me run anything. I had to restart OpenLP to get it to co-operate. I will keep an eye on that and let you know if it happens again.
Concerning my other problem. I had already disabled the Windows error reporting on the PCs and it makes no difference. It still won't start at all. Is it possible that OpenLP does not like Matrox duel head video cards? I had struck that with a railway simulation game Trainz. It would only work properly with Nvidia.
Lastly, I had ticked to receive email notification of forum posts - but I had not recieved notification of either of the above replys. Not sure what happened there so will try and keep an eye on the forum.
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
We're a little confused by this since we didn't know there was a email notification of forum post facility! I've looked around and can't find a tickbox, either when adding a forum post, replying or in my account settings. All I can see is the subscription button for the openlp.org newsletter.
Where exactly was this box you ticked?
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
As regards email notification. OK, I confess. I didn't read the heading properly.
I was looking at Account Settings and saw a tick box for email notification. But I can see now that it is for private messages and not general posts. My mistake. Pity, it would be easier than having to check back every so often.
So, any thoughts on my problem trying to start OpenLP on my PCs?
It will not start on either of 2 PCs which are otherwise pretty reliable as I use them in my work. 1 is a Pent4 3.2ghz with 2 gb ram and the other a core2 duo 2.13ghz with 1gb ram. As mentioned above they both have Matrox duel head video cards. I was not able to start vers 1.0 rc6 either.
Update. I have just tried to install and start vers 1.0 beta 1 on the core2 duo computer. It seemed to install ok but also would not start in exactly the same way. Vers 0.994 wil install and start ok though. So, whats the difference??
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
Hi peppie,
Unfortunately, without having your hardware, I can't really find much out. With the array of graphics cards that we have (I have an Intel and an nVidia, I'm not really sure what the others have) I have no problems.
I really have no idea why openlp.org wouldn't run on your computers. I'm presuming you have DirectX 9 installed, enough hard drive space, etc. More than that, I am at a loss as to why it won't run.
Raoul.
Re: Can't start OpenLP vers1.0
Thank you Raoul for your response, maybe my comment elsewhere prompted you. I mean no offense but I have seen problems before in very good endeavours develop from lack of good communication.
All I can say is that with the latest version of Openlp I was not able to get it to run with a Matrox duel head video card, but an earlier version would. The latest version will run on my Vaio notebook which has an Nvidia card. And no, DirectX is not the problem.
I am also unable to get it to run properly on the computer at church, but I think that is more to do with the video/tv output coming from an external USB video adaptor which has somehow tricked Powerpoint to output to the primary monitor and not the secondary. That one is out of my hands because I am at the mercy of the IT dept of the Salvation Army here in Sydney!
My expertise is video and mutimedia and not software (have a look at my website), but I can see that there is a definite problem running with a Matrox card, though Matrox do seem to do some things differently. Even Adobe Premier outputs program video differently on a Matrox than say an Nvidia.
If I get the chance I will try again and see if I can find some clues that might prompt someone else's thoughts.

Hey, I'm not sure if it's related or not, but it sounded similar to my problem - I've added my question under the 1.0.1 bugs page.
