Ability to play mp3 or wma files

You guys have done a great job with openlp; one feature for those who do youth related events; would be the ability to play audio files i.e. mp3, wma files. I hope you will consider this request. I'm using beta 6 and have had no problems so far. Thanks again! Ken Marshall Teen Breakthru Ministries

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

I can imagine there would be licensing issues integrating mp3 or wma support (as neither are free or open formats). As no one needs to see an audio file you can probably get more control over playback in a real audio player application. I think sometimes its best to pick the right tool for the job than trying to just stick every single feature you can think of in to one application.

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

There won't actually be licensing issues, as far as I can see. I'm looking at using the BASS audio library, with which, as far as I can see, we wouldn't need to worry about licensing costs (I think they have already paid).

But at the same time, I agree with you, sometimes it's best to use the right tool for the job.

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

Thanks for considering this feature; when doing an event, its a good feature to have; it allows you to que a sound track that you may need to play, just like a video or a slide. This keeps every aspect of media within the same application. No need to use openlp and harvest sound effects player, just openlp. Mediashout has this feature; but is very cost prohibitive for startup ministries who want to project quality media. Thanks again for all you do!

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

Ability to control a 3rd party media player (like Winamp or iTunes) from within OpenLP is a thought on this request.

I agree that for our media operators, one application would be a great benefit. We currently have a pre & post service MP3 playlist. It would be great if we could control playing of this from within OpenLP.

One application makes it easier for our users. An extra tab with a winamp interface in it, maybe? Not sure how possible this is, but I've noticed winamp interfaces in other software.

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

I just wanted to encourage your team to please consider including audio file playback capabilities; this would make openlp the complete multimedia presentation solution. When vocal artist come to sing at our church or event; many of them have tracks; it would be great to use an audio file instead and run it as part of the order of service. Thanks as always for your time and consideration!

It's one the featurelist, so hopefully it will be in version 1.2.

Thank you so much for your response:)

Re: Ability to play mp3 or wma files

You know I was asked to do this the other day by my Pastor. I simply added the mp3 as a video. Go to the folder where the mp3 is at and put *.* in the file and hit enter. the browser will show all files. select the mp3 and it will add it like a video file. You can then add it to the order of service. It worked for me, I hope it works for you :)
