Slide/Operation Advancing and Remote Controlling Idea

To Whom it may concern:

My church and I have just learned about openlp.org.  I have been interested in finding a software similar to openlp.  I have also been reading some of the questions about remote controlling the advancement of slides or sequence of operations.  Some questions were asked about using a single keystroke (left or up arrow to advance the slide).  Then I read where many people would like to use a remote (because of the single keystroke).  I have an idea, but have not tried it to see if it work.  My idea:

  • Use an inexpensive wireles remote that is compatible with Microsoft Office PPT or similar product.
  • Download and install a software application that is similar to Xpadder (xpadder.com).
  • Configure the Xpadder or similar software to meet the wireless presentation controller of your choice.  IE:  One button on your remote may simulate Ctrl+Alt+Z, another Ctrl+Alt+A, etc...

My thought is that many of the wireless remote PPT controllers are designed to have the functionality of a mouse and a slide advancer.  Programming the button, roller, slider, rocker arm, etc. on the controller via Xpadder would allow two different simultaneous senerios that can be configured for openlp.  1.) Advancing the sequence of operations.  2.) Advancing the slides.  Has anyone tried this or have any ideas?

Re: Slide/Operation Advancing and Remote Controlling Idea

I have a Nokia 6301 mobile phone with Nokia Wireless Presenter software preinstalled.

I use it to control the PC & OpenLP over a bluetooth link.  and when using M$ Office 2003 it will even display the slide notes on my phones screen.
The nokia software is from: http://europe.nokia.com/A4720080 for my 6301 at least.

The software is a little fidly to get working & then customised (about 2 hours it took me) but then it can be used to control any program on the computer.  I'm also sorry to say it appears to be Windows XP or Windows 2000 (Service Pack 2 or higher), it doen't mention Vista & well as you would expect Linix/Mac are not a thought.
