Won't recognize driver rendered attached monitor...
This is the scoop.
Device: Small form factor-Dell Optiplex SX280, P4, 512MB ram
OS: XP Pro, sp2 all updates
Graphics: Integrated dual monitor chipset via supplied DVI Y cable yielding 1-VGA & 1-DVI outputs from cable.
Current set up is unique. I do not have a monitor with DVI support. So, I bought a USB to VGA adaptor and run a second VGA monitor via this adaptor. This second monitor technically shows up as monitor (3) and works with PowerPoint and other applications. The problem is that openlp does not see this monitor as an option, only the two native monitor options (VGA & DVI). Since PowerPoint sees and uses the (monitor 3 via USB to VGA) adaptor; is there some way to get openlp to see or use monitor 3? This small form factor does not provide for ANY hardware additions to the chasis. That's why I had to utilize the USB to VGA option.
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

Re: Won't recognize driver rendered attached monitor...
Hi Allen,
Unfortunately, if the monitor shows up as monitor #3, openlp.org does not have support to display to it - at least in version 1. Openlp.org uses DirectX in order to display songs, custom slides, or media - Powerpoint is used only to display Powerpoint shows.
However, I would be happy to make a suggestion in order to at least get you going for the time being. You mentioned that the computer uses a dongle to split the display into a VGA and a DVI connection. There are inexpensive dongles available that split the display into two VGA connections as well - or if you want an even more inexpensive solution, adapters are also available that change DVI to VGA. Check with your favorite search engine for these adapters, or even talk to your local computer dealer.
Hope this helps!

Re: Won't recognize driver rendered attached monitor...
Hi andowes,
openlp.org should pick up whatever monitors are available to Windows. So technically it should display that monitor if it shows up in Window's Display Properties window. Can you confirm that it does?
In the mean time I'll have a look at the code and see if I can find anything that might be wrong there.
Re: Won't recognize driver rendered attached monitor...
When I acquired three of these devices a few months back, the cheapest true DVI-I to VGA converter I could find was $250. I'll try and see if Dell could some how help me. I wasn't successful in finding a dongle that would give me dual vga out of this card either...but...that like sick'm to a dog. I'll go do some more research.
Thanks for your advisement.

It does show up as monitor 3 in Display Properties and "identifies" as such, however, I have to use the adapter's "interface" accessed from it's system tray icon to modify resolution, bit depth, and refresh rate.
Thank you so much for your help.

Hmm. I stand corrected - thanks raoul!
As for the dongles/adapters - check out tigerdirect.com since you're in the US. C250-2316 is the DVI->VGA adapter - $8.99 before an $8.00 mail-in rebate. (I use one of these on our projection computer at church.)
I thought I had found the original dell part number for the dual-vga dongle, but that was apparently for the GX280 (DMS59), not the SX280 (DVI). I'm not sure how the generic DVI to 2 VGA splitters work, as they could just split the signal or set up an additional output.
Re: Won't recognize driver rendered attached monitor...
Thank you for your looking into this with me. The problem I've had is I've attempted to use this very adaptor and it does not fit the end of the dongle on the DVI connector end. The horizontal pin is too wide. However, it does fit on the video card but then it limits me to just one VGA feed off the card. But, I'll tell you what, one way or another we'll get things going because openlp is definately the answer for us.
It almost seems like a physical bus issue. Openlp sees the on board video card and correctly identifies the specific dongle adaptor plugs as (1,DVI) and (2,VGA). When you choose one of them it specifically sends it to one or the other just perfectly. I think we'll just save and forego the expense of getting a DVI enabled monitor to be primary and then allow the VGA to be secondary as is indicated on the dongle and let that feed the projection system.
You guys are great. Thanks so much for thinking through this with me! My wheels are turning. We'll get it. Again, thanks so much.
