openlp.org Bible Database Creator released
openlp.org Bible Database Creator allows you to create openlp.org bibles from CSV files. Then all you need to do is to put the file you generated into the \data\bibles folder, and openlp.org will pick it up automatically.
The format of the CSV file is as follows:
[book],[chapter],[verse],"[verse text]"

Source for files?
Where can you find CSV files? Is there a place on the internet for such files?

RE: Source for files?
hi dieter,
unfortunately, you can't find them on the internet. most versions of the bible are copyright and won't allow us to include them with openlp.org. i've actually had to remove the NIV version of the bible for that very reason (sad, isn't it?). if you have a particular version of the bible that you'd like in openlp.org, you'll need to get hold of it yourself.
of course, you're welcome to speak to the copyright owner of which ever version of the bible you use, to see if you can get it included in the openlp.org installation. we would love to be able to include as many versions of the bible in openlp.org as we can.
Fair Use Laws
The "Fair Use" clause of the copyright law permits me to make copies in another format if I only use one copy at a time and do not distribute the copies to others. I do this all of the time for CDs which I rip to play on my MP3 player. I currently many copies of Bibles in other formats--some of which I am not using. Copyright owners try to convince people that they cannot use copyrighted works in any other format. However, this is not true.
An alternative could be to use a standard format as e-sword, STEP or ThML.
Thanks!
Dieter
Standard format?
If you want an *open* standard format, I would suggest OSIS [1]. That way we could link in to Crosswire's large module database of public-domain (and many-lingual!) bibles [2].
After all, this is an open-source project, and it's great to bring focus to other great projects like the Crosswire's The Sword Project (I use the OSIS-based MacSword myself).
This is why these projects make their APIs publicly available--so others can benefit. Perhaps integration with the Sword API / OSIS can be a goal for 3.0 (or even 2.0).

RE: Standard format?
Yes, I have actually been thinking about that. It makes things easier for us too, since then we have a large number of bibles available to us.
I'll keep it in mind for openlp.org 2.0 (whenever that arrives).
Sword...
Yah dude, that's the way to go, one less thing to worry about and it ties into another OSS project. Dreambeam already has it set up that way - so it is doable...
